Introduction

In the last article, we introduced the idea of using the SurveyMethods software platform as a way of monitoring patients in a mental health practice. Today, we'll look at the reasons that the software is so valuable. Consider the following: Advanced Email Lists – You need those that complete the survey to be as anonymous as possible.

With advanced email lists, you can enter in secret codes that are specified for each patient – codes that only you can crack – so that you know which patient's data you're looking at, and no one on the other end will be able to crack the patient's privacy. Updates on Progress – Week to week progress can be hard to measure. Subjective progress is arguably as important as objective progress, and you need to know that your patients are improving – or at least feel that they are improving.

Rather than ask them in person to talk about their progress, a survey allows you to really track it, viewing a number and a graph that allows you to see that improvement. Patients have their ups and downs, and when you ask questions about if they're doing better it can be hard to tell if they're comparing it to their last "down" or if they're actually improving. Published Reports – Similarly, if you want to check up on a patient, you can sign online and view the patient's reports at any time.

You'll be able to see if they're having any ups or downs, and can check to make sure they're filling out their surveys at all. During the course of treatment, you may find that they miss sessions as well. Viewing their status from anywhere can help you check on them whenever you think it's necessary.

Patient Satisfaction – You'll also find that patients want a way to communicate with you when they don’t have a session. These surveys give them a way to make sure that they can get in touch with you when they need to, and that will drastically improve patient satisfaction. They can also tell stories or share their thoughts if this is part of your practice.

These are only a few of the ways that our software can be used, and we're not done yet. Stay tuned for the next article, where we'll look at other features that can help you monitor patients.
