Account Settings & Profile

This guide covers managing your personal account settings, security options, and profile information.

Accessing Account Settings

  1. Log in to your SurveyMethods account
  2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner
  3. Select Account Settings

You’ll see several tabs: Profile, Security, Notifications, and Billing.


Profile Settings

Updating Your Profile

Your profile includes:

Changing Your Name

  1. Go to Account Settings > Profile
  2. Edit the Name field
  3. Click Save Changes

Changing Your Email

  1. Go to Account Settings > Profile
  2. Click Change Email
  3. Enter your new email address
  4. Enter your password to confirm
  5. Click Verify New Email
  6. Check your new email for a verification link

Note: Your login changes to the new email after verification.

Profile Photo

To add or change your profile photo:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Profile
  2. Click your current photo (or the placeholder)
  3. Upload a new image (JPG, PNG, max 5MB)
  4. Crop if needed
  5. Click Save

Security Settings

Changing Your Password

  1. Go to Account Settings > Security
  2. Click Change Password
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter your new password (twice)
  5. Click Update Password

Password requirements:

  • At least 8 characters
  • Mix of letters and numbers
  • Recommended: include special characters

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Add extra security with 2FA:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Security
  2. Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication
  3. Choose your method:
    • Authenticator app (recommended): Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.
    • SMS: Text message codes
  4. Follow the setup steps
  5. Save your backup codes

Using 2FA:

  • Enter your password as normal
  • Then enter the code from your app or SMS
  • Use a backup code if you lose access to your device

Disabling 2FA

  1. Go to Account Settings > Security
  2. Click Disable Two-Factor Authentication
  3. Enter your password
  4. Enter a current 2FA code
  5. Confirm disabling

Active Sessions

See where you’re logged in:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Security
  2. Scroll to Active Sessions
  3. View all devices and browsers where you’re logged in
  4. Click Sign Out next to any session to end it
  5. Or click Sign Out All Other Sessions to log out everywhere except your current device

Login History

View recent login activity:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Security
  2. Click Login History
  3. See recent logins with:
    • Date and time
    • IP address
    • Browser/device
    • Location (approximate)

If you see unfamiliar activity, change your password immediately.


Notification Settings

Email Notifications

Control which emails you receive:

Configuring Notifications

  1. Go to Account Settings > Notifications
  2. Toggle each notification type on or off
  3. For response alerts, set frequency:
    • Instant (every response)
    • Hourly digest
    • Daily digest
  4. Click Save Preferences

Survey-Specific Notifications

You can also set notifications per survey:

  1. Open the survey
  2. Go to Options > Notifications
  3. Configure alerts for that specific survey

Data & Privacy

Exporting Your Data

To download all your account data:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Profile
  2. Scroll to Data & Privacy
  3. Click Export My Data
  4. Choose what to include:
    • Account information
    • Survey data
    • Response data
  5. Click Request Export
  6. You’ll receive a download link via email

Deleting Your Account

Warning: This is permanent and cannot be undone.

To delete your account:

  1. First, cancel any paid subscription
  2. Go to Account Settings > Profile
  3. Scroll to Delete Account
  4. Type “DELETE” to confirm
  5. Enter your password
  6. Click Permanently Delete Account

What’s deleted:

  • Your profile and login
  • All surveys
  • All responses
  • All settings

Connected Apps

Viewing Integrations

See apps connected to your account:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Connected Apps
  2. View all authorized integrations
  3. See when each was connected

Revoking Access

To disconnect an app:

  1. Go to Connected Apps
  2. Find the integration
  3. Click Revoke Access
  4. Confirm revocation

The app will no longer have access to your SurveyMethods data.


API Access

Finding Your API Key

If you have API access (Professional plans and above):

  1. Go to Account Settings > API
  2. View your API key
  3. Click Show to reveal the full key

Regenerating Your API Key

If your key is compromised:

  1. Go to Account Settings > API
  2. Click Regenerate Key
  3. Confirm the action

Warning: Your old key stops working immediately. Update any integrations using the old key.


Common Questions

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

  1. Go to the login page
  2. Click Forgot Password
  3. Enter your email
  4. Check your email for reset link
  5. Create a new password

How do I change my username?

Your email is your username. Change it in Profile settings (see above).

Can I have multiple accounts?

Yes, you can create multiple accounts with different email addresses. However, consider using a Team plan if you need to share surveys.

How do I merge two accounts?

We don’t support automatic account merging. Contact support to discuss options.
