Account Settings & Profile
This guide covers managing your personal account settings, security options, and profile information.
Accessing Account Settings
- Log in to your SurveyMethods account
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner
- Select Account Settings
You’ll see several tabs: Profile, Security, Notifications, and Billing.
Profile Settings
Updating Your Profile
Your profile includes:

| Name | Your display name shown in surveys |
| Your login email and notification address | |
| Company | Your organization (optional) |
| Job Title | Your role (optional) |
| Timezone | Used for scheduling and timestamps |
| Language | Interface language preference |
Changing Your Name
- Go to Account Settings > Profile
- Edit the Name field
- Click Save Changes
Changing Your Email
- Go to Account Settings > Profile
- Click Change Email
- Enter your new email address
- Enter your password to confirm
- Click Verify New Email
- Check your new email for a verification link
Note: Your login changes to the new email after verification.
Profile Photo
To add or change your profile photo:
- Go to Account Settings > Profile
- Click your current photo (or the placeholder)
- Upload a new image (JPG, PNG, max 5MB)
- Crop if needed
- Click Save
Security Settings
Changing Your Password
- Go to Account Settings > Security
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new password (twice)
- Click Update Password
Password requirements:
- At least 8 characters
- Mix of letters and numbers
- Recommended: include special characters
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Add extra security with 2FA:
- Go to Account Settings > Security
- Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication
- Choose your method:
- Authenticator app (recommended): Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.
- SMS: Text message codes
- Follow the setup steps
- Save your backup codes
Using 2FA:
- Enter your password as normal
- Then enter the code from your app or SMS
- Use a backup code if you lose access to your device
Disabling 2FA
- Go to Account Settings > Security
- Click Disable Two-Factor Authentication
- Enter your password
- Enter a current 2FA code
- Confirm disabling
Active Sessions
See where you’re logged in:
- Go to Account Settings > Security
- Scroll to Active Sessions
- View all devices and browsers where you’re logged in
- Click Sign Out next to any session to end it
- Or click Sign Out All Other Sessions to log out everywhere except your current device
Login History
View recent login activity:
- Go to Account Settings > Security
- Click Login History
- See recent logins with:
- Date and time
- IP address
- Browser/device
- Location (approximate)
If you see unfamiliar activity, change your password immediately.
Notification Settings
Email Notifications
Control which emails you receive:

| Product updates | New features and improvements |
| Tips & tutorials | Helpful guides (unsubscribe anytime) |
| Billing alerts | Payment confirmations and issues |
Configuring Notifications
- Go to Account Settings > Notifications
- Toggle each notification type on or off
- For response alerts, set frequency:
- Instant (every response)
- Hourly digest
- Daily digest
- Click Save Preferences
Survey-Specific Notifications
You can also set notifications per survey:
- Open the survey
- Go to Options > Notifications
- Configure alerts for that specific survey
Data & Privacy
Exporting Your Data
To download all your account data:
- Go to Account Settings > Profile
- Scroll to Data & Privacy
- Click Export My Data
- Choose what to include:
- Account information
- Survey data
- Response data
- Click Request Export
- You’ll receive a download link via email
Deleting Your Account
Warning: This is permanent and cannot be undone.
To delete your account:
- First, cancel any paid subscription
- Go to Account Settings > Profile
- Scroll to Delete Account
- Type “DELETE” to confirm
- Enter your password
- Click Permanently Delete Account
What’s deleted:
- Your profile and login
- All surveys
- All responses
- All settings
Connected Apps
Viewing Integrations
See apps connected to your account:
- Go to Account Settings > Connected Apps
- View all authorized integrations
- See when each was connected
Revoking Access
To disconnect an app:
- Go to Connected Apps
- Find the integration
- Click Revoke Access
- Confirm revocation
The app will no longer have access to your SurveyMethods data.
API Access
Finding Your API Key
If you have API access (Professional plans and above):
- Go to Account Settings > API
- View your API key
- Click Show to reveal the full key
Regenerating Your API Key
If your key is compromised:
- Go to Account Settings > API
- Click Regenerate Key
- Confirm the action
Warning: Your old key stops working immediately. Update any integrations using the old key.
Common Questions
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
- Go to the login page
- Click Forgot Password
- Enter your email
- Check your email for reset link
- Create a new password
How do I change my username?
Your email is your username. Change it in Profile settings (see above).
Can I have multiple accounts?
Yes, you can create multiple accounts with different email addresses. However, consider using a Team plan if you need to share surveys.
How do I merge two accounts?
We don’t support automatic account merging. Contact support to discuss options.
