Creating Multi-Page Surveys

Break your survey into multiple pages to improve organization, reduce cognitive load, and create a better experience for respondents.

Why Use Multiple Pages?

Benefits

  • Reduced Overwhelm - Smaller chunks feel more manageable
  • Logical Grouping - Organize related questions together
  • Progress Indication - Respondents see how far they’ve come
  • Conditional Sections - Show/hide entire pages based on responses
  • Save Progress - Responses saved after each page
  • Better Mobile Experience - Less scrolling on small screens

When to Use

Consider multiple pages when:

  • Survey has more than 10-15 questions
  • Questions fall into distinct categories
  • You need page-level logic
  • Survey includes different topics
  • You want to show progress

Creating Pages

Adding a New Page

  1. Open your survey in the editor
  2. Click New Page button
  3. Or use the + icon at the bottom
  4. Give the page a descriptive name

Page Properties

For each page, configure:

  • Page Title - Displayed to respondents (optional)
  • Page Description - Introductory text (optional)

Reordering Pages

Use the page’s more actions menu and select Move Page.

Default Behavior

  • Next button advances to next page
  • Previous button returns to prior page
  • Questions validated before advancing

Progress Indicator

Show respondents their progress:

  1. Go to Settings > Display Options
  2. Enable Progress Bar
  3. Choose style:
    • Percentage
    • Pages (e.g., “Page 2 of 5”)
    • Question count
    • Visual bar

Page Logic

Use skip logic to direct respondents to different pages based on their answers. Skip logic is evaluated when a page is completed.

Example: If a respondent selects “Never used” on a product question, skip them past the product feedback page to the general questions page.

Page Settings

Page-Level Options

Randomization:

  • Randomize question order within page

Best Practices

Question Grouping

Group related questions:

  • Demographics on first page
  • Topic 1 questions together

  • Open-ended feedback at end

Page Length

Aim for consistent page lengths:

  • 5-10 questions per page typically
  • Consider question complexity
  • Account for mobile users
  • Test completion times

Logical Flow

Structure your survey logically:

  1. Introduction - Welcome and instructions
  2. Screening - Qualification questions
  3. Core Topics - Main content areas
  4. Demographics - Background questions
  5. Closing - Final comments, thank you
  • Always show progress indicator
  • Enable Previous button unless security concern
  • Clear page titles help orientation
  • Consistent button placement

Advanced Techniques

Multi-Language Pages

For translated surveys:

  • Same page structure across languages
  • Language selector on first page
  • Consistent navigation

Conditional Endings

Different end pages based on responses:

  • Thank you variations
  • Resource recommendations
  • Next step instructions
  • Score-based messages

  • Verify logic conditions
  • Check question references
  • Test all paths thoroughly
  • Review logic order

Progress Not Saving

  • Verify collector settings
  • Test different browsers
