Skip Logic

Skip logic allows you to direct respondents to different parts of your survey based on their answers. This creates a personalized experience and ensures respondents only see relevant questions.

How Skip Logic Works

Skip logic is evaluated when a respondent completes a page. Based on their answer to a specific question, they can be directed to:

  • A specific question on another page
  • The top of another page
  • End the survey

Supported Question Types

Skip logic can be applied to closed-ended question types where respondents select from predefined options:

Setting Up Skip Logic

  1. Navigate to the Logic tab in the top toolbar
  2. Click Add Skip Logic
  3. Select the source question
  4. Choose the answer that triggers the skip
  5. Select the destination:
    • A specific question on another page
    • Top of a specific page
    • End of survey
  6. Save your logic

Common Use Cases

Screening Questions

Filter out respondents who don’t meet your criteria.

Example:

  • Q: Are you 18 or older?
  • If “No” → End survey

Product-Specific Questions

Route respondents based on which product they use.

Example:

  • Q: Which product do you own?
  • If “Product A” → Skip to Product A questions page
  • If “Product B” → Skip to Product B questions page

Satisfaction Follow-up

Direct respondents to different follow-up questions based on their rating.

Example:

  • Q: How satisfied are you?
  • If rating is low → Skip to “What can we improve?” question
  • If rating is high → Skip to “Would you recommend us?” question

Best Practices

  1. Plan your survey flow - Sketch out your logic paths before building
  2. Use multi-page surveys - Skip logic works between pages, so organize questions into logical page groups
  3. Test all paths - Preview your survey and test each possible route
  4. Keep it simple - Avoid overly complex logic that could confuse respondents
  5. Check endpoints - Ensure all logic paths lead to either survey completion or a valid destination

Testing Your Logic

  1. Click Preview to open your survey in test mode
  2. Complete the survey multiple times with different answers
  3. Verify each skip logic rule directs to the correct destination
  4. Check that respondents can complete the survey through all paths

Troubleshooting

Skip logic not triggering:

  • Verify the logic is set on the correct question and answer
  • Remember logic is evaluated when the page is completed, not immediately after answering
  • Check that the destination page/question exists

Respondents seeing wrong questions:

  • Review your logic conditions
  • Ensure logic rules don’t conflict with each other
