Phone Interview Surveys
Phone interview surveys part 2. Advanced telephone research techniques.
Introduction
This is a continuation of a previous article, about using surveys to help streamline phone interviews. In the last article, we discussed what these surveys could look like. The key is that they have everything an interviewer needs on hand, including both boxes for the answers and additional boxes in case any other questions or comments come up.
During the phone interview, the interviewer can type in all of the answers, or select the appropriate answers as needed. Once completed, they can then submit the form.
Once the Form is Submitted
The moment they hit the submit button, numerous things can take place based on your own hiring practices. If the interviewer in charge of all hiring was the one that conducted all phone interviews, they can simply review each candidate looking at the data and see which ones deserve an interview. Candidates can also be ranked according to their answers, and the interviewer has an opportunity to re-read answers and see if they were better or worse than they initially believed.
If the interviewer is not the person that is going to review each applicant, then each application (or only highly rated applications) can then be sent to someone else, that can review each answer subjectively, taking the other interviewer's opinions into account but also seeing if there is something interesting that perhaps the interviewer missed. They may also be able to see if there are other positions the person appears qualified for or if there is more to learn, etc. These answers can also be printed or disseminated, or used to come up with additional questions to ask at the first interview.
Creating a Dataset of Applicants
Finally, applicants can also be ranked according to the information they've submitted, and hiring managers can easily see who the top candidates are. This applicant database can also be kept indefinitely, and possibly used for some type of rolling hiring system. Regardless, the potential here is limitless.
Your company can easily streamline phone interviews in a way that is easier to analyze and manage. Each applicant will have an opportunity to be reviewed, and the data can be kept and analyzed without introducing too much human error. Overall, it represents a far upgrade from the way that phone interviews are usually completed.
