Introduction
Employee satisfaction is not the only factor when it comes to production. An employee paid a great deal for an easy job is always going to be satisfied, regardless of other factors within the workplace, but they may not working towards helping the company succeed the way that the company wants. That is why researchers often look for other ways to find out how much the employees associate themselves with the success of the company. One possible way is with an employee engagement survey.
Employee Engagement Surveys
Engagement surveys come in many different styles, but the goal of these surveys is simple: find out if the employees are as engaged with the company and its mission as you would like them to be. It’s assumed, rightfully, that employees that believe in the company and feel engaged by what it offers are going to be more willing to spend time making sure they produce at their job. Thus companies create these surveys to see where the company currently falls, and find out if there is anything they can do to improve engagement.
Types of Questions
Questions can be specific, such as: How much do you believe in the company’s vision? How engaged do you feel with the company? How much do you associate the company’s success with your own? But this is not the only way to run this type of survey.
You can also come up with more generic agree/disagree questions and have employees rate them on a scale, similar to the study run by Whiteboard, LLC. Some examples include: I often feel distracted at work. I would work harder if I was paid more.
I feel like time passes quickly when I work. Then you can run analyses that allow you to uncover how engaged the employees truly are with the company. Once you have that baseline, it will also give you an opportunity to see if any of the changes you make within the organization are able to affect employee engagement, as well as whether or not those changes lead to improved production.
Utilizing Engagement Surveys
Employee engagement surveys are one possible way that you can use your research to find out how effectively your company has made its vision received by the employees. The more engaged the employees, the better your production, and these surveys are one method of finding out that information.
