Introduction
College recruitment doesn't seem to have adapted to the technology of the present. Job fairs are still the norm, and while some companies will take advantage of things like email lists to attract people to their company, most still use things like flyers, radio announcements – or they use nothing at all. This seems like a wasted opportunity. The reality is that there are plenty of ways to modernize college recruitment, and one example is with surveys.
The Online Survey for Attracting Applicants
Online surveys are valuable tools for comparing and contrasting candidates for different types of positions. It's not just the positions themselves either – often there are individuals that are perfect for some type of job or career that never have the opportunity to find out about it. For example, few people in college consider themselves on the path towards law enforcement. But perhaps someone in college has the skills to be a great detective, or a psychological profiler. These are things that can be found using surveys (combined with other media, like images or videos). At young ages, many children fill out forms that have to do with the person's ideal future career, and then they're told based on these forms whether they'd be good sales people, or accountants, etc. But these types of forms are rarely filled out when the person is an adult, nor are they used by companies that could take advantage of this type of research to spot real difference makers that have the chance to rise up in the organization. All of these are issues that are preventing companies – and to a lesser extent, college students – from succeeding. Businesses keep waiting for great employees to come to them. Surveying college students is a way to go towards the great employees, possibly spotting the individuals that may have no idea how successful they would be for a role.
Using Surveys in Recruitment
College is specifically designed to get people ready for a future career. Yet at the end of college, most students have no idea what they're going to do. Companies far too often wait for these students to find their jobs and apply. By then, the next great employee may have chosen a different career path out of necessity. Instead, using surveys and research at college campuses can help you spot these future leaders and have them signed to contracts long before they've even hit the job market. Doing so can drastically change the future of your company, and is something that most businesses that hire college students need to consider.
