Security & Compliance Overview
SurveyMethods is built to keep your account and your respondents’ data safe. This overview explains how sign-in, sessions, and devices are protected, and where you can manage these settings.
Signing In
SurveyMethods uses a dedicated identity provider (Auth0) to handle authentication. When you log in or sign up, your credentials are verified there, and your browser session is kept in a secure, server-side cookie. Passwords are never stored in the SurveyMethods application itself.
All traffic between your browser and SurveyMethods runs over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
Managing Your Sessions
Your active session is tracked while you’re logged in, including a periodic activity check so idle sessions can be recognized. When you sign out, that session is closed immediately.
You can update your sign-in details at any time from Account Settings:
- Open Account Settings from the menu.
- Change your password, email address, or username.
- Save your changes.

Registered Devices
To help prevent unauthorized account sharing, your account can be signed in on up to 2 devices at a time. You can review and manage these under Registered Devices in your account.

| Registered | When the device was first added |
New devices are registered automatically when you log in. To free up a slot, remove a device you no longer use. Removals are limited to 3 per month to discourage credential sharing. After a device is removed, it must re-authenticate before it can be used again.
Data Protection
Response data and account information are stored in secure databases, with frequently accessed data cached in an encrypted-in-transit caching layer for performance. Respondent-facing options such as anonymous responses let you further limit the personal data you collect.
