Importing Contacts
Already have your recipients in a spreadsheet? Instead of adding people one at a time, you can bring a whole list into SurveyMethods in a single step, either by uploading a CSV file or by pasting rows directly.
Getting Started
- Click Contacts in the main navigation.
- Click Add Contacts.
- Select the Import multiple contacts tab.
- Under Add from the following, choose Csv File or Manual.
Field Order
Both import methods use the same column order:
| Position | Field |
|---|---|
| 1 | |
| 2 | First Name |
| 3 | Last Name |
| 4-8 | Custom 1 through Custom 5 |
Email is required and must be a valid address. Rows with a missing or invalid email are skipped and reported as invalid. The five custom fields are optional and let you store extra details you can later merge into email invitations.
Importing a CSV File
- Select Csv File.
- Click Choose CSV file and pick your file.
- Choose what to do when a contact already exists: Update Information or Ignore.
- Optionally turn on Add contacts to groups and select one or more groups.
- Click Add contacts.
Your CSV must include a header row (for example, Email, First Name, Last Name), be a .csv file, and be smaller than 5 MB.
Pasting a List Manually
- Select Manual.
- Place each contact on its own line, with a comma between field values.
- Leave a blank space between commas for any field you don’t have.
- Choose your duplicate handling and groups as above, then click Add contacts.
After Importing
SurveyMethods shows how many contacts were imported, ignored, and skipped as invalid. Duplicate emails within the same list are only added once. To review or edit the results, see Managing Contacts & Lists. When your list is ready, you can distribute your survey via email.
